Quere is a research lab applying frontier AI to the law. Rather than wrapping frontier models in another tool, we point them at the law itself — to read the whole of it at once and map what it actually holds.

The name is the older spelling of query, the form still in use at the founding. You find it in the letters of that generation: a writer reasoning through a problem who stops to mark an open question — quere whether it be so. It survives in the lawyer's marginal note: you are sure of a point, and then, quere, you are not. That small act — the open question noticed in passing, the thing worth checking before you rely on it — is the whole idea of the firm.

The advances in AI that promise to compress decades of work in medicine and the sciences can be turned on the law just as well. Many of its hardest questions are tractable now and simply unanswered — left open because no one has had the time to settle them until a case demands it. We mean to settle them in advance: the splits, the gaps, and the best arguments on every side, set down before they are needed.
